Cookies, cakes, candies, and other kitchen escapades

My little man is 8!!

So the boy that made me a mother just turned 8!  I can’t believe how time flies.  For this very special birthday I had a very special cake request.  We’ve been reading Harry Potter together, and he wanted Hogwarts Castle.  We typically have small intimate family only parties, so I had to scale the design way down.  It’s a loose interpretation, but we have the castle, the Whomping Willow, the Forbidden Forest, and the Black Lake.

The trees and the Whomping Willow are made of modeling chocolate.

The castle itself is cake with rice cereal treats for the roofs.

It was a magical birthday!

Cake Giveaway Winner

Congrats to my cake giveaway winner!  Celebrating a birthday on Halloween with family, she requested fall leaves and pumpkin vines.  I took it one step further with some delicate white pumpkin gourds.

Fall Leaves Pumpkins Cake

8″ Chocolate cake with raspberry filling and vanilla butter cream.  Covered in fondant with hand painted gum paste leaves and pumpkin vines.  The pumpkins are rice cereal treats covered in white modeling chocolate and painted with luster and petal dust.  Perfect for a fall celebration.

Chocolate Roses

I’ve been looking for an excuse to play with modeling chocolate.  I couldn’t really find one, so I made a cake.  That’s a good excuse, right?  Just a small one.  6″ round two layer white cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream under rolled fondant.  Fondant bow.  Chocolate roses.  They were so much fun to make, I’ll need to find another excuse to do it again soon.
