Cookie Giveaway Winner

Congrats to my cookie giveaway winner.  She requested some fall themed cookies to celebrate the changing of the seasons.  These were fun to do and I got to try out some new techniques.

The oak leaves were done using a technique called brush embroidery.  The outline is piped, and before it drys paint brush is used to brush it in towards the center of the cookie.

The maple leaves were done by swirling the red and yellow together with a toothpick.  Once dry, the veins were piped on to add more depth to the design.

The acorns used a combination of both techniques.  A toothpick was used to swirl the lines on the hats, and brush embroidery on the bottom.

Together they made for a very festive fall celebration.

Connor Turns 6!

All of the birthdays in my family are in the fall.  One or two a month from October – January.  Add in Christmas and Thanksgiving, and that is one busy season for us.  To kick start the holidays, my middle kid just turned 6.  He asked for a dragon cake.  Sure thing sweetie, no problem!

Blue Dragon1

The dragon is made of sour cream pound cake.  The whole thing is cake, except for the head and the claws.  The head is rice cereal treats covered in fondant.  The claws and the tip of the tail are shaped from fondant and the wings are gum paste.

Blue Dragon2

The scales on his back and chest were individually cut and placed.  He’s sitting on a marbled green fondant field surrounded by some buttercream grass.  One happy dragon!  And one very happy 6 year old!

Adventures in Sugarpaste.

Aria has been asking for a Ballerina cake for her birthday in December.  And she does not want ballet shoes on the top, she wants an honest to goodness ballerina.  So I’ve been practicing my figure modeling, and I think we have a winner.  When she saw a picture of a mermaid on my computer (while I was looking at figure modeling tips and guides) she asked me to make one.  So of course I did.

Mermaid - fondant

By the time we were done, she had changed her mind entierly.  She now wants a mermaid cake for her birthday.  I’ll be interested to see what she finally settles on, since I feel like I could handle a ballerina if that’s what she really wants.

Happy Jack-O-Lanterns for October.

I just love how these smiling Jack-o-lanterns came out!  They seemed just the think for the begining of October.  The leaves are changing and the weather is cool, and the kids are wearing their Halloween costumes every day!

It’s Giveaway Time!!

Everyone love free stuff!  And even better than free stuff, is free cake. Because you can eat it and don’t have to keep dusting around it.  So two lucky winners will get free goodies this week.

Ivory fondant chocolate roses cake

To enter the giveaway, you need to Like Amandolin Kitchen over on Facebook.

Then, come back here and leave a comment on this post that says you’ve liked my Facebook page, and something you’re celebrating in the next month (come on, dig deep people.  There is always something to celebrate.  I don’t mind if you’re reaching.  Friday is always a good reason for a party. If all else fails, use Halloween, but I’m not making you an all black cake.  That would take gobs of food coloring.)

Puppy Cookies

This time next week, I’ll use a random number generator to pick two numbers.  The comments that corresponds to the numbers generated will be the winners.  Winner #1 will receive an 8″ round cake decorated to the theme of your party/celebration.  Winner #2 will receive 2 dozen cookies, also decorated to the them of your party/celebration.

To be eligible for the giveaway, please be local to the Yellow Springs area, or able to arrange for pick up.

Good luck, friends!

UPDATE: The winners have been announced and contacted by e-mail.  Congratulations JoFrannye Reichart and Kendra Cipollini!

These cookies were just begging to be made!  Done freehand on a round cookie, because I couldn’t find a cookie cutter to match my vision.  One of the funnest cookies I’ve done to date, and I’m thrilled with how they turned out.

Leaves and Sunflowers

No sooner had Labor Day come and gone then Fall was upon us.  Overnight the weather changed from scorching 90 degree days (I’m in Ohio, that’s hot for here!) to chilly mornings and cool evenings.  To me, nothing says fall like sunflowers.  So I made a few.

Happy Sunflowers

Fall also means beautiful leaves.  I took a different approach, and used ivory on ivory to give these cookies a subtle and elegant feel.

I love this time of year!

Roses and Ruffles

Another chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and raspberry filling.  The chocolate and raspberry combo is really a winner.  All decorations are done in butter cream.
